Boxelder Bug FAQ
Do I need to remove my boxelder tree?
Not necessarily. Only female (seed-bearing) boxelder trees support large Boxelder Bug populations — male trees produce no seeds and do not host the bugs. If you can identify your tree as male, it does not need removal. If it is female and producing heavy annual Boxelder Bug pressure, removal is one effective solution but not the only one. Why are Boxelder Bugs only on the south side of my house?
