Should I kill house centipedes since they eat other pests?
Centipedes do feed on cockroaches, silverfish, ants, and spiders, so there is a school of thought that says to leave them alone as biological control. In practice this rarely works in residential settings because centipede populations only thrive when there is enough prey to support them — meaning a centipede problem is also a sign of a hidden cockroach or silverfish infestation that is large enough to feed predators. Why are centipedes only in my basement?
